Espanyol looses against Real Sociedad in a very exciting match
Espanyol was looking for the fourth victory in a row against one of the best teams of the league. The truth is that Real Sociedad played a very good match and Quique’s boys did a great effort to try to stop the visitors. A great goal of Illarramendi in the second half finished to decide the match.
Without Piatti, out of the team because of an injury, the doubt during the week was to find out who would play instead of the Argentinian. Finally, Quique Sánchez Flores decided to give another opportunity to Felipe Caicedo, who started the match with a lot of energy. The striker, who has had a difficult season, wanted to show that he can be helpful for the team.
Espanyol started with a good chance to score. Jurado took a corner kick and Diego Reyes’ header was close to get in the net but Rulli made a good save. It was the only opportunity for the locals that suffered a lot in the first half against Real Sociedad that did really well. The visitors moved the ball with a lot of idea and they didn’t stop attacking. Real Sociedad tried constantly and Vela, after getting between the two centre backs, beat Diego López. The match didn’t change much but Espanyol doesn’t need much to score and after a good assist from Reyes, Hernán Pérez made the draw with a brilliant goal. Great for Espanyol that really suffered against a team that offered a very good image.
The second half started with Real Sociedad dominating the match. The visitants kepot playing a great football while Espanyol had to do big efforts not to receive another goal. Therefore, as the minutes went on the locals improved and strating having some good chances. It was a more balanced match until Illarramendi with a terrible shot from outside the box got the second goal for Real Sociedad.
