1-2: Massive victory on the road
RCD Espanyol Femení emerge victorious at DUX Logroño
RCD Espanyol Femení beat DUX Logroño Femenino 2-1 away from home on Sunday.
The first twenty minutes consisted of absolute blanquiazul dominance, one of the best of the season. Adriana Martín opened the scoring inside 10 minutes when she sneaked in a direct free kick that was somewhat wide.
Marc Cabestany’s side continued to dominate the hosts, who struggled to lay their authority on the match. On 15 minutes, with a shot from outside the area, Adriana scored the second goal of the game and made it a brace of her own.
Logroño began to close the gap soon after, pulling one back to cut the deficit to a single goal. Even so, Espanyol had the clearest chance to make the third, but the referee ruled out Sara Extremera's goal for offside.
In the second half, Logroño took a step forward and had multiple dangerous chances to equalise. But a solid performance from newcomer Carla Abdón in goal kept them at bay, even on two occasions preventing the equaliser from coming.
The good initial minutes of the team was enough to secure three points in a crucial match, against a direct rival in the fight for promotion. The win sees Espanyol Femení move sixth at the time of writing, two points off the playoffs with one match to go before the Christmas break.
