1-2: Hard work pays off
RCD Espanyol Femení earn an important win away to Albacete Femenino
RCD Espanyol Femení fought out a 2-1 win away from home against Albacete Femenino on Saturday.
The Mágico travelled to Albacete with the aim of remaining undefeated in the league and making it back-to-back victories. This was reflected from the first minute and, in the stifling heat, Ángeles came close to opening the scoring with a header .
Later, Simona’s effort from a set piece sent the ball grazing the right post of the hosts’ goal, as they kept threatening for the opener. The home side also had their chances with attempts by Laura and Elena that made goalkeeper Salvador shine with some great stops.
The second half began with Espanyol dominating and looking the more likely to break the deadlock. So much so that in the 54th minute Lice netted her first goal in the blanquiazul shirt, finishing off a great cross from Júlia Guerra into the back of the net.
Adrián González's team wanted to go for more, but as the game went on, Albacete began to generate chances from set pieces until the newcomer Riu levelled it up. With no room for regret, Espanyol restored the lead just two minutes later thanks to a great header from Mar Torras that caught the defence off guard.
Albacete threatened the visiting pericas into the final stages of the affair, but a strong defensive display kept them at bay and saw Espanyol bring the three points back to Barcelona.
Before the game, a minute of silence was observed for the loss of Ángeles' grandmother. We express our deepest condolences to our player and all of her family and friends – R.I.P.
