1-1: Tough encounter ends in stalemate
RCD Espanyol B held to draw at home
RCD Espanyol B were held to a 1-1 draw by UD Alzira on Saturday.
Espanyol continued their Segunda RFEF campaign at the Ciutat Esportiva Dani Jarque, having earned two wins from their opening two games in September.
The hosts wasted no time in going forward and were unlucky not to score with their first effort on goal. Abde Damar pulled it back to Juan Camilo Becerra, whose powerful strike forced goalkeeper Adrián Fernández into a smart save.
Espanyol would get their reward after all, thanks to a clever piece of play from Raúl Dacosta. The forward picked up a through ball, turned the defender and curled it into the bottom corner to give the young pericos an early lead.
That lead would be short lived as Alzira struck back, a corner falling to an unmarked Kaiser to head them level. Espanyol almost got back in front through Kenneth Soler, but his effort from close range cannoned off the post.
Alzira started the second half strong as both sides went straight for it after the restart. Javi Serra blazed the ball over from a tight angle for Alzira, before Espanyol went up the other end and almost struck gold through Becerra’s acrobatic effort.
Not long after, Carlos Mangada saw his free-kick curl agonisingly wide of the top corner. An intense period of Alzira pressure would follow, taking control of the game and firing chance after chance at the hosts’ goal to no avail.
Lado Mokhevishvili had the chance to win it for Alzira in stoppage time, but Ángel Fortuño pulled off a superb save from close range to preserve the point for the hosts.
