1-1: Sacrifice point
An orderly Espanyol gets a point against Eibar in a very disputed match
Espanyol got a valuable point from Ipurua after completing a very serious game against a rival that demanded much to the white and blue. The two teams applied a high intensity to the match that was not excessively bright, but very disputed. The goal of Jurado in the second half allowed Espanyol to add a tie that keeps them close to their direct rivals.
Quique was forced to make some changes in his line-up because of Piatti¡s injury. The manager decided to give Hernán Pérez another opportunity and surprised with Diop in the midfield. Jurado was the man to play on the left side of the attack.
The two teams had a lot of problems to keep the ball and none of them were able to dominate the game. It was difficult for both to create opportunities and the goalkeepers were leaving a very calm match. Therefore, the locals got in front of the scoreboard thanks to a goal of Kike after a pass from Pedro León. Eibar started to dominate more and during a few minutes they put Espanyol in trouble. Quique’s boys were able to reacted and Caicedo was close to score after stealing a ball in three quarters but his control went long. Before half time, Gerard’s header went out.
Fortunately, in the first attack of the second half, Jurado got the ball in the net after a great assist from Gerard. Espanyol drew the match and again Eibar made a step forward. Hopefully, Diego López and David López did their best o avoi Eibar’s second goal. Espanyol fought until the last minutes to assure the point against a great rival.
