RCD Espanyol Femení play out draw in final home match against DUX Logroño Femenino
RCD Espanyol Femení were held to a 1-1 draw at home by DUX Logroño Femenino on Sunday.
Carol Miranda’s side were playing their final match of the season at the Ciutat Esportiva Dani Jarque looking to end the season on a high. It was the hosts who were soon dominating affairs in search of a goal, first when Judit Pablos first almost converted a shortbackpass before her lobbed effort was wide of the target.
Alba Mellado went through on goal with acres of space ahead of her, shooting early from range to no avail. Cristina Baudet then went close when her shot came off the post, Espanyol undoubtedly in control but not capitalising on their chances as it remained goalless at half-time.
The second half saw a swing in momentum towards Logroño, who were creating chances and getting closer to breaking through. They eventually took the lead at the midpoint of the half, as Olga García found the bottom corner direct from her free-kick.
However Espanyol were not out of it, and drew level soon after when Judit Pablos capitalised on a defensive mishap, rounded the goalkeeper and slotted it home for the equaliser after trailing for just seven minutes.
Neither team could find a breakthrough in the final 15 minutes, and after an injury delay for Nuria Martínez, it ended all square. Espanyol Femení concluded their home campaign in front of the fans at the Dani Jarque, as they finish the Primera Federación Femenina season away to CD Juan Grande Femenino next week.
