Espanyol looses against Betis in a match with little options

After two wins in a row Espanyol wasn’t able to obtain the third victory against Betis. The white and green team scored two goals before the minute 20 and despite Espanyol’s opportunities the Galca’s team didn’t find the way to come back. Betis’ third goal was the sentence of the match.

Galca decided to start with Caicedo and Gerard Moreno in attack and with Hernán. Abraham and Burgui, who played last Saturday against Sporting, this time, were in the bench. Betis began playing with more confidence and before minute 10 of the match Rubén Castro scored the first goal. Betis striker put in the net a good pass from Pezzella.

Espanyol tried to react and Gerard had a great opportunity to score the first goal, but he missed. Galca’s team played well during the next minutes and it look that the draw was near. However, everything turned out wrong. Pezzella scored the second goal for the visiting team and put in hard trouble Espanyol. The white and blue team tried to react before half time but they were not able to score a goal that would have been good for our interests.

Galca decided to change in the half time and Enzo Roco came on the pitch for Víctor Álvarez. The team had a good start and in the first minutes Marco Asensio and Caicedo had good options to score. The manager decided to put all in and Burgui came on for Javi López. Espanyol kept attacking and made efforts to score one goal.

But again the local team was quite unlucky. Gerard Moreno scored but the referee didn’t give the goal because he considered that the striker was off side. After this decision, Betis sentenced the match with a great goal of Vargas. Again, Gerard Moreno saw how the referee decided to invalidate the goal that was totally legal.

After this defeat Espanyol is two points ahead of the relegation places.
