0-2: Penalised
Two goals from Edu Expósito in the first half gave Eibar the victory
Espanyol could not score against SD Eibar, and suffered another setback at RCDE Stadium. The Blue and Whites hoped to achieve a good result to change the dynamic of recent days, but they found themselves facing a very practical opponent who took full advantage of two specific actions to achieve victory.
It was expected to be a difficult match for the Espanyol team once the relegation was completed. Rufete, in the preliminary, insisted that the team should continue fighting until the end with intensity and the desire to win. On the other side, an Eibar that still needed points to ensure they would stay in the top division. To try to win, the Blue and Whites coach recovered the line of four defenders and made numerous changes in his eleven. Neither team wanted to risk too much, or hurt themselves too much. Espanyol based almost all their dangerous actions on the left wing with Dídac, who tried with several centres. The game finished without incident except for a far kick from Kike, which Diego López caught in two halves.
However, midway through the first half, the game became much more complicated. Edu Expósito took advantage of a penalty as clear as it was innocent by Víctor Gómez to overtake Barcelona. Shortly after, another penalty at the request of the VAR meant the second. Diego López stopped the shot, but the visiting player took advantage of the rebound. Calleri, with a shot to the post, was able to close the gap before the break.
Not much happened in the second half. Eibar, with the score in their favour, focussed on managing their advantage against Espanyol, who had hardly any options to score except for a couple of shots from Calleri. RDT and Melamed gave a bit of depth to the team seeking an honour goal, with no luck.
