0-1: Unexpected defeat
Espanyol has the best opportunities but Valencia wins thanks to Gayà
Espanyol and Valencia faced in the RCDE Stadium in a match in which both teams tried to offer a good spectacle freed of the tension by the classification. For the white and blue team it was the farewell in front of their fans this season and the goal was clear after two consecutive defeats: obtain the victory.
Quique Sánchez Flores commented in the previous his will to say goodbye to the fans with a good match and result. To achieve it, the coach decidedto put Hernán Pérez for Piatti, contract low, and the return of Aaron after serving sanction against Deportivo de la Coruña. Espanyol came out with a good attitude and in the first two minutes came close with great danger to the goal defended by Doménech. In fact, Jurado was very close to scoring after a play with several refusals, but his shot went out narrowly.
After a few minutes of good football by Valencia, the locals turned to create opportunities taking advantage of the continuous defensive mismatches of his opponent. Gerard had the goal after a good pass from Baptistao, but it was Marc Navarro who had the clearest opportunity with a header that came off the crossbar of Doménech.
Sánchez Flores looked for some alternative with the entrance of Caicedo instead of Hernán Pérez. Baptistao was moved to the left side of the attack and Jurado went to the right. The team improved and again had some opportunity to get ahead on the scoreboard, but there was no way. All the success that did not show Espanyol Gayà had to mark the only goal of the match and give victory to the visitors.
