0-0: Referee show
Espanyol is still undefeated in a match marked by the action of the referee who came to suspend the friendly
The team coached by Quique Sánchez Flores finished their fourth friendly of the pre-season with a draw against Twente in a match where the referee became the main character. After he sent of Piatti, Espanyol players protest his decision and he decided to suspend the match during 10 minutes. After the stop, the game lost all the interest and any of the teams were able to score.
Again Quique Sánchez Flores decided to put on the field what looks his favourite team. In this case, Melendo played for Granero who was injured. Espanyol found a very tough rival, stronger physically that didn’t give many options to the Catalans. Pau López made two good saves to keep a clean sheet but the team didn’t have good chances to score.
After half time the match changed a bit. Piatti, Jurado and Melendo started to play and the team had more chances. In fact, Leo Baptistao was close to score three times but the Brazilian wasn’t lucky. The goal looked close but something weird happened: the referee booked Piatti and after the protest of Espanyol players he decided to suspend the match. After ten minutes the game carried on but the scoreboard didn’t change and Espanyol got their first draw of this summer.
