0-0: Goalless draw at the Dani Jarque
RCD Espanyol held at home by Deportivo Aragón
RCD Espanyol B drew 0-0 with Deportivo Aragón on Sunday.
With the fight for promotion tight at the top of the Segunda RFEF, Ángel Fortuño returned from injury to start in goal in an important test for Luis Blanco’s boys.
Espanyol began well and were in control within the early stages, almost taking the lead when Aragón’s Miguel Opere flicked it goalbound and forced a quick save from his own goalkeeper Dani Rebollo.
Juan Camilo Becerra had a guilt edge chance when Luka Koleosho pulled it back to him, though could not get enough power on it. Right on the stroke of half-time, the striker was brought down inside the box for a penalty. Dani Villahermosa stepped up but saw his spot kick come off the post, leaving it agonisingly goalless at half-time.
There were far fewer opportunities to break the deadlock for either side in the second half, with much of the time spent battling for possession. Jaime Vallejo saw his free-kick flash just wide for Aragón, while Nabil Touaizi was beaten to the ball by the keeper.
Out of nothing Espanyol were reduced to 10 men, when Javi Hernández was sent off for an incident off the ball. Though it gave Deportivo Aragón the chance to take advantage, neither side could find a breakthrough late on as it ended goalless at the Ciutat Esportiva Dani Jarque.
