“We will work with humility”
Luis Miguel Ramis is clear of the task in hand as he is unveiled as the new men's first team coach
Luis Miguel Ramis was unveiled as the new men’s first team coach of RCD Espanyol on Monday, speaking at his presentation at the Stage Front Stadium.
The Catalan coach takes over from Luis García, who has helped facilitate the transition to the new management and for whom Ramis expressed his gratitude. He was presented as the new blanquiazul coach in a press conference in the Juan Segura Palomares auditorium.
Ramis said, “This is the biggest challenge of my career, and I arrive at the Club full of excitement and responsibility. We all know the weight this shirt carries, and I hope to respond to that. Both my team and I feel prepared and, starting today, we will try to get to where we want.
“My team will have very defined attack and defence mechanisms that is worked on day by day. That does not mean that it was not done before, but that I will work to achieve this”.
The Tarragona-born coach has plenty of experience in the second division, where he has guided both Albacete and Tenerife to the LALIGA play-offs during his managerial career. He joins Espanyol on a one-year contract with the option of a second, should he achieve the ultimate goal of returning to the top flight at the first time of asking.
Ramis added, “There is enormous equality in this league and the demand marks the small differences that exist between the teams. We are going to work with great humility and work very rigorously, but with the conviction that we will get where we all want to be”.
The coach concluded, “This squad has very high potential, but it must be developed. We want to be first class, but we are not yet. We haven't completed the test yet; we have only taken it on. We know where we want to go and we will not stop until we get there. I put myself in the shoes of the Espanyol fans and I know that they want to get points, starting on Sunday. We cannot waste any opportunity”.
Club CEO, Mao Ye said, “I want to Luis García and his team for their professionalism. He understood the situation and put Espanyol above everything”. Sporting Director Fran Garagarza added, “They deserve our respect. Luis has shown that he is a hard-working, passionate and dedicated coach. We have explained to him that we understood that this change was the best for the Club”.
