“We needed this victory”
Diego López explains what he thought before Messi’s shot
Diego López was one of the most outstanding players of Espanyol last night. His great save when Messi’s penalty gave more confidence to the white and blue team. “It was an special match for us and our supporters. We needed to win because a derby is always very exciting and more when in the recent years Espanyol hasn’t had many good results. It is going to stay in our memories and we have to enjoy it”, he said.
No doubt it was a special match for our supporters as well as us. We did need some joy to foster the Club's project, a derby is something exciting especially when the preceding ones always ended in a defeat. It is a match to be kept in our memories, to thoroughly enjoy it, also for our wonderful fans.
“I am very happy to have helped the team to achieve a positive result and the victory. It is a punctual action, a good save. Leo is unpredictable. He scored the last two penalties on my left and this time I tried to wait. I decided to plunge myself to the left because he usually shots them”, he said.
“I am very happy for Oscar. He is an example of what this club is. A player that started so young in the Academy and he scores his first goal as a pro that gave us the victory in a derby. It is a player that works a lot and that has a lot of talent”, he said.
“For me Barcelona is still favourite. It is a short result, but is sentimental victory for the supporters. For us is an important goal. We won a team that is in a great moment, but there is another match next Thursday and we know what they are capable of. We will have to fight a lot, but we are excited and that is something anybody is going to take away from us. It is going to be complicated but we have to play. The result is good, but not final. We are going to suffer a lot. We must score because I don’t remember many matches in where Barcelona didn’t score”, he said.
