“We need to get closer to being ourselves”
Luis Miguel Ramis is eager for a statement performance in Saturday's trip to Andorra FC
Luis Miguel Ramis wants the team to get back to winning ways away from home, as they face Andorra FC on Saturday.
RCD Espanyol’s final away day of 2023 takes them to the municipality of Andorra, where the team are aiming to get a first win on the road under Ramis.
The men’s first team coach said, We need to put in a good performance away from home and get closer to being ourselves. When we reach our potential, the team is very powerful. This work is done daily on the pitch in training, and this is one of our challenges: to maintain a behaviour that allows us to get the three points”.
Espanyol have two more games before the winter break, starting with Andorra on Saturday before hosting Burgos at the Stage Front Stadium on Tuesday. Ending the year on a high would also put the Mágico in a solid position in the promotion battle, in which they currently sit fourth as we approach the halfway stage of the 2023/24 season.
Ramis continued by saying, “To get six points in two games, we must first get the three points. We want to finish the year well and grow in conviction and confidence, and by being a reliable team. We have the first chance to do that tomorrow, and getting those three points is our main challenge.
“This is about creating scoring opportunities and being clinical. We want to take the game where we want and not where Andorra want to, as they are a very demanding opponent. For us it is not just another game, it is the game of the week and we have to do our job and chase the victory against a good opponent”.
The last away match before the break will see a sizeable backing from the ever-present and loyal Espanyol fans, who will come to the Estadi Nacional d’Andorra in numbers. Getting the three points would be the perfect early Christmas present to the pericos making the journey.
Ramis concluded, “There will be a brilliant atmosphere and there will be many of our fans, which also really strengthens us. In fact, where Espanyol play, there is always a great atmosphere. It really helps that they are here. The debt is ours and we have to pay it off week by week”.
