“We must fully trust our new coach”
Captain Sergi Gómez is ready to adapt to new coach's Luis Miguel Ramis' philosophy
Sergi Gómez has acknowledged that the change of coach has surprised him, speaking ahead of Sunday’s trip to SD Huesca.
RCD Espanyol will contend their matchday 15 fixture with a new man in the dugout, upon the appointment of Luis Miguel Ramis as men’s first team coach on Monday. The captain spoke to the media about how the situation has impacted the team, though assured that the end goal remains the same for the group.
Gómez said, “It was a surprise, but these things happen when you least expect it, everyone knows that this is football and that is how it works. We must have full trust in our new coach, who arrives with a different football philosophy, but we have to do our best to achieve the goal”.
The Catalan defender continued, “This is everyone's responsibility and no one needs to be blamed, not a player nor a coach. It is a project that has did not turn out as we expected. I feel bad because of the relationship we had and for his brave philosophy because. It is everyone's fault, but we are not here to look for blame but for solutions.
“We must focus on what we have now to overcome this challenge. We really committed to the previous coach's philosophy but that did not turn out as we wanted. We send [Luis García] our support and a hug because the treatment, from the first day, was unmatched”.
Ramis will begin his tenure as Espanyol head coach at El Alcoraz, home of Huesca, with the expected backing of thousands of travelling pericos. The Mágico will look to return to winning ways in LALIGA Hypermotion and return to the automatic promotion spots.
Gómez concluded his press conference by saying, “The new coach’s philosophy is to keep a much more solid defensive block The goals we have conceded have been because the team exposed itself a lot, so we hope this new idea will be more effective so that we can achieve the results that give us automatic promotion”.
