“We keep growing and competing well”
Luis García gives his verdict after a successful outing to Cartagena
Luis García was content with a second win in four days as he reflected on Thursday’s performance against Cartagena.
Espanyol came away from south-eastern Spain with a 2-0 victory at the Estadio Cartaganova, with the goals coming from the same goalscorers as last time out in Pere Milla and Martin Braithwaite.
García gave his verdict in his press conference after the match, explaining, “Regardless of the result and the three points, the team has shown that they are passionate and want to compete for the whole 90 minutes. We wanted to settle it before and, when you don't, it seems that things can happen”.
The coach continued, “We defended very well and put in a very assured performance, the fans who came out to support us really drove us on. The team left everything on the pitch, and it was essential that everyone played their part. The team defended well and did many things well to win here. The most important thing above all is that I can see that we are a team”.
The three points moves the Mágico to the top of the league, a point clear of second and in a solid position to start off October. Milla opened the scoring in the early stages of the evening before Braithwaite netted his third goal of the week in stoppage time.
García added, “This team recovers from everything and shows that every player is involved in achieving the goal. Being league leaders tells me that we are on the right path but that we have to continue pushing every day.
“The team continues to grow and compete well, that is fundamental. I am grateful to the fans who came out to support us, and we must continue with the same humility as always”.
