“We have improved but we still have more work to do”
Diego López said that Espanyol has competed against all the rivals and warns about the importance of the next match
Espanyol is in a comfortable situation on the table but it is still feasible to improve their position in the league. Goalkeeper Diego López said that the team has competed against all the rivals but thinks that Espanyol has work to do yet.
“We are ambitious but we started this season fighting against the teams under us and now we are fighting against great sqwuads. Espanyol has improved but we still have work to do to compete against teams as Villarreal or Real Sociedad. We must work to reduce the distance. With more time we will be more effective, we will improve our football. It is a matter of time and effort. We have competed against all our rivals but maybe in some matches our rivals have shown more talent”, he said.
“Our goal is to win all the matches and fight in every game. That is what we have done until now to get the points we have. We are in a good position and we can fight for Europe. However, I think that until the last four or five matches you can’t really fix a goal”, he said.
Espanyol is getting ready for the next match against Las Palmas. “It is a team that has done good signings like Jesé. It is a team that plays football very well and if they have a good day they can pass on top of you, but we know how to hurt them. We must do a very serious match to win. Las Palmas is a team that likes to play, that enjoys itself on the field but for us it is a very important match to try to win the three points”.
“That fantastic defensive stage we had was difficult to maintain. During the season there are moments in which you work defensively well and we were lucky in some actions. We are working well and we are receiving goals because we are playing great teams with fantastic players. We are one of the three teams that have been able to leave more times a clean sheet”, he said.
Finally, about his future he said that “I have always been optimistic. I really appreciate what Espanyol did for me and I would like to have my future clear before the 30th of June but I know it is difficult”.
