“We didn’t have the intensity required”
Luis Miguel Ramis reflects on a bitter defeat on the road to CD Eldense
Luis Miguel Ramis spoke of his disappointment following RCD Espanyol’s 3-2 defeat at CD Eldense on Sunday.
The coach said, “We played a bad game and we didn't know how to adapt. We didn’t have the intensity required and that undermines you. We did not defend well in any scenario where we had to face up against the opponent. We did not see an Espanyol with the intention of being promoted today”.
Espanyol overturned an early first half deficit through an own goal and Martin Braithwaite’s penalty, though they conceded the equaliser right before the break. Eldense then scored the eventual winner 10 minutes after the restart, condemning the Mágico to another away defeat at the Estadio Municipal Nuevo Pepico Amat.
Ramis continued, “I am convinced that we will turn it around, but I feel ashamed on a day like today. We work very hard during the week not to see this and it makes us very angry. Now we have to respect the criticism and continue working hard. We missed an opportunity, but this continues”.
The Catalan coach further explained, “Today it hurts me that we are leaving here like this because it seems that there is no idea and there is no job. The opponent even surpassed us in focus and concentration. When you go 2-1 up, that has to be defended better, and I have to make the players understand that, that many times they defend themselves with blood.
We were never close to winning because the opponent took it to the limit to defend the victory. This league is like that, whoever the opponent is, and you have to get your act together to adapt to these circumstances. The game was planned and worked on, but it didn't work out. My obligation as a coach is to evaluate all this and see that those who want to take this to the limit will have options to play; the rest, zero”.
