“We demand the maximum of ourselves every day”
Luis García sees Friday's battle with Leganés as "just another game" rather than an early title decider
Ahead of the crunch clash against Leganés on Friday, RCD Espanyol coach Luis García insists that it is just another game of equal importance to the team.
Leaders Espanyol welcome the side sitting right behind in second to the Stage Front Stadium, in an encounter which also pits the league’s best goalscorers against the best defence.
García said, “It will be an exciting game for everyone, but that is exactly what it is: just another game. We want to prepare well and know that we must put in a good performance to extend our lead at the top. We did not suffer the other day [against Real Valladolid], the team managed the game impeccably to get the three points.
“They have shown reliability, grown into a well-balanced team and adapted quickly to the second tier, which is not easy to do”.
It is the second home match in a row at the Temple, after last weekend’s 2-0 win over Valladolid returned the Mágico to the top of LaLiga Hypermotion.
The coach continued, “We demand the maximum of ourselves every day. This is how we have put it and how we understand it. We know that within this self-demand, we have to give our best every day. I invite the fans to come tomorrow because we are going to need them, and hopefully we will be able to enjoy a victory.”
García concluded by saying, “We are at home, in front of our fans, and I am convinced of producing a great performance. Leganés are an in-form team, they are the second highest scoring team with the best defence, balanced and very organised defensively.
“We have the weapons to play a good game against an opponent who is doing well. Regardless of tomorrow's result, nothing is final. There will be many points left to play for and many days ahead”.
