“The team is hurt and angry”
Luis García reflects on RCD Espanyol's 2-2 draw with SD Eibar on Friday
Luis García spoke in his post-match press conference following the 2-2 draw with SD Eibar on Friday.
RCD Espanyol were denied the three points with a 98th minute equaliser from Eibar, having come from behind at the Stage Front Stadium.
García said, “The team is hurt and angry. I can see that the players are annoyed because they gave everything to win, but we have to pick ourselves up because that is the only thing I know how to do in these situation”.
He continued, “I think we have to look at ourselves. We made several unnecessary fouls, knowing that they have one of the best set-piece players in the league in Aketxe. The lack of a goal to kill the game off also preceded a decision that we should have had in our favour, but we know that we have to defend that play better.
“In the second half, the team did everything possible to turn the score around and achieved it against an opponent whom no one had been able to overcome for a long time. We had the victory and it escaped us”.
García finished by saying, “It is something that is within each of us, but we have very high standards because we are not used to being in the Second Division and we must go back up. You have to know how to manage this”.
