“The best thing was the point”
Luis Miguel Ramis reflected on his first game as head coach which ended all square with SD Huesca
RCD Espanyol coach Luis Miguel Ramis acknowledged the fair result in the 1-1 draw against SD Huesca on Sunday.
He said, “The game was not good. This is the Second Division, we have to be more aggressive in defence and take more responsibility in attack. We rushed when we were on the ball, we were too sideways with the ball when I know we can do much more with it. We have to get in the box earlier and be more aggressive”.
The first match of the Ramis era ended in a stalemate after Javi Puado put Espanyol in front just after the second half, before Huesca equalised with 78 minutes played. They sit right on the edge of the play-offs in sixth, though just three points off the automatic promotion spots.
Ramis continued, “The draw is a fair result and the point is the best we could get, the best thing is the point. We had a clear opportunity through Jofre [Carreras] at the end, but to be honest it would not have been fair to win”.
Finally, the new head coach was asked about the Espanyol fans, who travelled in strong numbers to fill out the away end. Ramis responded, “The fans were up to the task, but we were not. They want their team to win and we did not do that”.
