“Our fate is in our own hands”
Abelardo insists on the idea that “we can only think about the match against Getafe. That is the objective, nothing more“
Saturday’s win against Deportivo Alavés has boosted morale in the blue and white dressing room, but, as Abelardo has acknowledged, “now it is time to think about the match against Getafe. It is again a very important game and that is the objective, nothing more than that”.
The coach said that “we have to focus on ourselves. Though we are at the bottom of the table, it depends on us”, he said, adding that he does not dare to forecast which teams can become embroiled in the bottom positions. “I do not know if it will be among the current five ones or if more teams will join. Our fate is in our own hands, we need to win games. Tomorrow is the next one and we have to try to get the three points”.
He said that, generally speaking, “the team that makes fewer mistakes will have more chances” and recalled that “we played a great game in defence and attack. That is the key. It is the what we want for all games”.
He also pointed out that “starting to win gives you a lot” in terms of confidence, and revealed that he has yet to check “how fit the players are after Saturday’s game. I have more or less the line-up in mind, but I want to know how they are doing”.
He also revealed that “resting” is one of the aspects he emphasizes most, adding that “last Wednesday we were focused and today we will focus again. We have a lot of work to do and I barely have time to prepare for the game”.
He has noticed the team as being “happier”, but “we cannot relax because we have not avoided relegation yet. Tomorrow we have another game and we have to think about that objective. We cannot think beyond that”.
Lastly, he said that Getafe under Bordalás “seems to me like a great team. They are fighting to get into the Champions League. I love seeing how their coach is working and how some players are involved in that idea. It sets an example for many teams. Tomorrow he will recover three important players, who will raise the level of the team”.
