“Job done”
Luis García comes away satisfied with the team's performance as they beat CD Mensajero
Luis García was pleased to come away from Tuesday night’s trip to La Palma with what they came to get, after a 2-0 win over CD Mensajero in the Copa del Rey.
Espanyol booked their place in the second round thanks to a Salvi Sánchez brace in quick succession, grinding out a comfortable victory at the Estadio Rosendo Hernández.
García said, “We have achieved our objective. These types of matches are not easy, and we had a lot of respect for the opponent. We played well, we were reliable and although we did not completely kill off the game with a third goal, we defended well and had chances to score some more”.
As well as progressing in the Copa del Rey, the first round win saw three debutants from the academy. Omar Sadik and Marc Jurado were both in the starting XI, while Joan Puig came off the bench as the trio made their senior debuts with the men’s first team.
The perico coach continued, “I’m also pleased because there were no mishaps with injuries, and players managed to get the minutes planned. We are aware of the importance of our academy and ‘La21’ and the players there, we are aware of them. We return home feeling good and with many positives”.
Garcia concluded, “There are going to be upsets in the Cup. Football teaches you that any team can cause difficulties for you. I know the Mensajero coach a little and I know that his teams are competitive. That is why we approached the game with great humility and maximum respect for them, and that's what we did from start to finish”.
