“It was the worst match of the season”
Luis García recognises that his side were not at their best in Monday's defeat to Villarreal B
Luis García gave a brutally honest assessment of RCD Espanyol’s 3-1 defeat to Villarreal B on Monday.
Espanyol’s second loss of the season sees them knocked off the top of LaLiga Hypermotion as they were beaten at the Estadio de la Cerámica.
García admitted, “It was the worst match of the season. I told the players at half-time that the best thing that could happen to us was to only be at 2-1. We did not approach the game well despite knowing of its intensity, and we did not take any advantages that we had. At 2-0 everything was much more complicated. We lost most duels and you pay for that, regardless of who it is against. We paid for it with this result”.
The coach explained about Villarreal B, “They overloaded our box and we had to be aggressive in those inner spaces. In the second half we took more risks and, just like that, they scored the third for us. We did not interpret the situation well and they got the better of us."
García concluded, “We must learn, manage the defeat and know that we are in second, but there is a very long road ahead to improve. It has been a hard day for everyone and we must thank our fans, who come home annoyed on a daily basis because we have not been able to give them the result that we wanted”.
