“I see a team that is alive and kicking”
Cabrera insists, “We’ve got more than enough to sort this out”
It was only a week ago that Leandro Cabrera joined Espanyol yet already he already has a strong sense of the club’s identity. The defender knows that the team is fighting for survival, but he also says “I see a team that is very much alive and kicking, that gives everything and competes well”.
He recognises that, against Athletic Club, there were moments in which the team was “imprecise” but that they also “showed a lot of heart and at the end of the day are a point closer to survival”.
He insists that there is a “good dynamic” amongst the squad and says that “we’ve got five points from a possible nine against teams that are fighting to qualify for Europe and to win the league. The coach has a plan, which is working”.
He says that he’s delighted to be at Espanyol because “this is a great club and is showing it” and declares that now it’s time to talk about the game against Granada. “What happened the other day happened. We have to put it behind us and move on” knowing that “we’ve got more than enough to sort this out. We’ll give every last drop of sweat to get out of the situation we’re in”.
He reasons that “for now, it doesn’t depend on us, but the most important thing is getting points on the board. The draw the other day left a bit of a bitter taste, but now you can see how valuable it was. We can talk about the game against Mallorca now because they’re the team we’re trying to catch, but if we aren’t focused against Granada, we’ll go into the game against Mallorca in a worse position”.
