“I cannot blame the players for anything”
Manolo González has left Lezama frustrated after a 0-0 draw with SD Amorebieta
Manolo González has left Lezama frustrated after a 0-0 draw on Sunday that leaves RCD Espanyol to settle for the play-offs.
The Mágico’s goalless draw away to SD Amorebieta means that they will be in next month’s play-offs for a place in the top flight, the first team to be confirmed. The men’s head coach reflected on a difficult afternoon in the Basque country with nothing to separate the two sides on the penultimate matchday of the regular season.
González said, “We had options if we won, but that was not possible. We dominated, we had the opponent in their own half, but we were left without scoring, and that worries me. We were attacking and tried to seize the game from the first minute. We have to try and finish third to get an advantage in the play-offs.
“Today I cannot complain about how we competed. We defended in the other half, and I cannot blame the players for anything. It would be a failure if we do not go up. We will not be the first or the last to go up through the play-offs. Now it time to grit our teeth and move forward with these remaining games. Everything is valued by the final result, but I think that today we deserved more”.
