“I am satisfied with the result”
Luis Miguel Ramis is pleased with a job well done in the Copa del Rey with a win over Real Valladolid
Luis Miguel Ramis reflected on a successful night in the Copa del Rey as his side progressed past Real Valladolid on Tuesday.
RCD Espanyol ran out 3-1 winners at the Stage Front Stadium, thanks to a first-half brace from Jofre Carreras and Javi Puado’s goal in stoppage time. Having booked their place in the third round, the head coach gave his thoughts on a commanding win.
Ramis said, “It was a game to be patient defensively because if we rushed we could end up being exposed. We worked well on that and took advantage of the spaces behind the centre-backs, and found situations to make dangerous transitions. It was an intense match and we worked well defensively, but offensively we have to grow a little more”.
He continued, “The only thing that will give us confidence is results, and this is a good result regardless of it being the Cup. When you put this shirt on there is no choice but to leave everything out there and to take the game forward. We have done exactly that, now it is time to rest well and we go again on Friday”.
Espanyol booked their place in the third round against a fellow promotion-chasing side in Valladolid, an encounter far from comfortable but bringing a deserved victory for the hosts. It is the first of two home games this week, as the Mágico now turn attention to the visit of Real Zaragoza in the league on Friday.
Ramis explained, “We are happy, we wanted to advance to the next round. With many changes due to the current schedule, it had to be like this. This is a squad prepared for any game, we are going to need everyone. I am satisfied with the result. If we did not play in the Cup we would stop competing for almost a month, so it is good to have that Cup match. We will be just as excited for the next round”.
The head coach concluded, “We work on it with the same importance. When we have time there is always a day when we work on the defensive aspect but the offensive aspect is always present. We try to take advantage of everything and give importance to everything. I do not want to be a defensive team, rather a team that defends well”.
