“Goals generate confidence”
Luis Miguel Ramis recognises the confidence boost from the 2-1 win over Villarreal B
RCD Espanyol men’s head coach Luis Miguel Ramis was pleased with the team’s 2-1 win over Villarreal B on Saturday.
A Martin Braithwaite brace in the first half was enough to secure the three points for the Mágico, who move up to third in LALIGA Hypermotion with their first win of the year.
Ramis said, “Many games are going to be like this and we are ready for that. I am fine to go away with a 2-1 win, and exactly the same away from home, in an agonising way. We will try not to get ourselves into those situations, but we made a mistake in the first half and it meant we conceded a goal. We seek to generate trust in ourselves and in the fans. We are up there and it is a challenge for me, the coaching staff and the players”.
Espanyol had to fight out the result in the second half against a resurgent Villarreal, but their efforts in the first 45 minutes proved to be sufficient to get the win. Next up is a trip to Eldense on Sunday to close January, as the Mágico hope to break into the top two going into the final few months of the campaign.
Ramis continued, “Goals generate confidence, if you play very well and don't score, it bites you back. I am happy for the players because they are very committed to doing things well and succeeding. I'm going to continue working, I can't betray the players. I'm calm and we now have to prepare well this coming week to go to Elda and win.
“The first half was good and the fans were enjoying the chances we created. The emotional situations weigh more because we wanted the three points. The team needed it after so many draws. This is one more step that comes with three points and it will generate confidence”.
