"We went out there with a winning mentality"
V. Moreno acknowledges that "we did things very well", but "we were not convincing enough"
This comment from Vicente Moreno summarizes the 90 minutes of the game against Girona: "If we played ten games like this, we would win nine of them," argued the Espanyol coach after the game.
“We didn't want to lose, and in fact the team came out with a winning mentality from start to finish. I feel that the team did many things very well. I am almost ashamed to say that we did so well yet still lost the game, but that's just how it goes. We weren't convincing enough and these types of games are accidents that can happen. There are things to improve and we have to be much more convincing in front of goal,” he insisted.
The coach also explained that the team kept up "the same strong work ethic and style of play throughout the game, other than in the final minutes when everything was more desperate."
Finally, he stressed that the players' work and attitude “was magnificent. You have to congratulate them. We are now at a similar stage to where we were in the first round. We now just need to keep getting points so that we can stay where we are in the table. If we play like we did today, there's a high chance that we'll win our next match."
