"We clearly didn't play well"
The Espanyol coach is upset about the defeat, but is already thinking ahead to the next three points
Vicente Moreno, hurt by the team's defeat in Butarque, appeared before the media to analyse the defeat. His opinion left nothing to the imagination: “We clearly didn't play well. We didn't respond to the game's demands”.
Leganés made things very difficult for the Blue and Whites shortly after starting. "Part way through the first half we tried to shake things up by playing a long ball game to try and get past their front line, which is where we had the most problems." But after making that change to their game plan, and then the goal and the red card, “everything became very difficult for us. We ended up with the unfortunate combination of having a bad day and having a very strong opponent”.
In spite of everything, he is trying to take something positive from today's game. He points out that “the boys really emptied the tank in the second half. They played more with their hearts than their heads, but not once did they give up on the game”.
The only thing to do now is to look ahead to Sunday's game against Zaragoza and "win those three points". By doing that, Espanyol can start to "hunt down" the teams at the top of the table. It will be vital not to concede any goals: “then it will be easier to move up the table three points at a time. If we let our opponents score, we will have a lot more work to do".
