"We are annoyed because we wanted to win"
Vicente Moreno points out that the team competed well, especially given how strong their rivals were
The RCD Espanyol coach, Vicente Moreno, after his team's draw against Fuenlabrada, acknowledged that the team is "annoyed" because they had tried to win, but still values the point they got, given how strong their rivals were. “It's a valuable point, because it was difficult out there; time will tell. We are annoyed because we wanted to win and when we thought we had the three points in the bag, we missed out on two of those points. That obviously left us feeling frustrated. Positives can be drawn from the way the team played; they wanted to win, and in that sense, we should congratulate them. We need to continue working hard and preparing for our upcoming matches to make it all worthwhile”, he reflected.
Vicente insisted that “we came here with the clear aim of getting those three points. We had prepared well for the game because we knew how difficult it would be. It's a shame because we really controlled the game and felt that we were going to win". The coach pointed out that “we still think the draw was valuable, because we were playing against a team who were giving it 120%. It was really intense; they pushed us very hard and the pitch didn't help much either. It was a really difficult game”.
“The team fought hard, they tried to match the locals' intensity, aggressiveness and momentum. It's no coincidence that they've got such a long undefeated record at home. But at least we were able to work them hard. We just missed out in those final decisive minutes. I am satisfied with how the players worked, but as we came with the intention of getting all three points, and we failed to do that, we're obviously feeling disappointed”.
