Transfer of the FNQ Espanyol Supporters Group
During the month of September, the Presidents of both official RCD Espanyol Supporter Groups in Australia, Nick Puñal of PericOz and Ignacio Ortega of FNQ Espanyol met in Sydney to discuss a range of topics. At the top of the list was the transfer of FNQ Espanyol from Cairns to the City of Brisbane and the subsequent name change that such a move required.
The change of location is due to Ignacio accepting a new job and after a few deliberations it was agreed to rename the Supporters Group to RCDE Brisbane.
This new group establishes the very first Perico embassy in the capital City of the State of Queensland and brings with it a host of new opportunities, not to mention the increasing likelihood of finding more RCD Espanyol supporters in a city of 2.5 million inhabitants!
The sad news of having to transfer is that Ignacio will have to leave the successful FNQ Espanyol U11 FutSal team who in their short lifespan of two years reached the league Grand Final on both occasions! Despite the move, the FNQ Espanyol FutSal team will continue to compete in the Redlynch FutSal league with the blue and white Espanyol kit, therefore continuing to represent RCD Espanyol (although not as an official Supporters Group) in the Great Barrier Reef.
Contact with both players and parents will be maintained and who knows, one day some of these players may grow up to become great Pericos in tropical Far North Queensland!
The main objective after a period of familiarisation in Brisbane will be to look for a new Watch Party HQ for viewing live games featuring RCD Espanyol.
If you know of any RCD Espanyol Supporters living in Brisbane or the Gold Coast please do get in touch with Ignacio Ortega via email: RCDEBrisbane@gmail.com or via Twitter: @RCDEBrisbane
