RCDE Stadium to host games in 2030 World Cup
The stadium has been chosen by FIFA as a venue for World Cup matches
FIFA confirmed this Wednesday that the RCDE Stadium will be one of the venues for the 2030 World Cup, which will be jointly organised by the federations of Spain, Portugal and Morocco.
Opened on August 2nd, 2009, the RCDE Stadium is one of the most modern grounds in Spanish football, and in its 15 years of history it has established itself as one of the most prestigious sports facilities both nationally and internationally.
FIFA chose the stadium for several reasons, although they particularly highlighted the sustainability of the facility, its accessibility and proximity to the El Prat de Llobregat airport, the provision of VIP experiences and the Hospitality areas, which have been renovated and improved in the last season.
The improvements applied in this last season have been very well received by fans. This season, the number of seats has increased from 566 in 44 boxes to 839 in 60 boxes. The 16 new boxes have a capacity of 14 to 30 seats; the 3 boxes with 30 seats are interconnected, which allows for the creation of a large, multi-purpose space, not only on matchday but also for hosting any type of corporate event on other dates.
The addition of the new boxes means new VIP options in the middle ring: Corporate Prat (4 boxes, 56 seats) and Corporate Tribuna (12 boxes, 217 seats).
Furthermore, the RCDE Stadium has been awarded for its innovative project based on the installation of two new photovoltaic areas on the roofs of the RCDE Stadium, aimed at promoting sustainable practices. The stadium has increased its solar energy generation capacity by installing 1,860 Orion Series VII panels, producing 595 watts. Thanks to this technology, it is expected to generate approximately 1.9 GWh of energy per year, which represents a reduction of around 800 tons of CO2 per year.
In addition, the RCDE Stadium is a very practical and comfortable stadium for both fans and the different professionals who are in charge of the organisation and undertaking of a match.
The magnificent visibility is another differentiating aspect compared to other sports facilities in Spanish football.
After three decades, the RCDE Stadium continues to be a benchmark stadium within LALIGA and one of the most highly valued sports facilities both nationally and internationally.
Besides recognitions such as the Stadium Business Award in 2010, the venue has organised numerous international friendlies, concerts by global music artists and countless events in the different areas.
FIFA, aware of the potential of the facility and its room for improvement, have not hesitated to include the RCDE Stadium in the final list for the 2030 World Cup. As happened in the 1982 World Cup in Sarriá, the RCDE Stadium will be the scene of major international matches in the most prestigious competition.
