RCDE Stadium visited ahead of 2030 World Cup bid
Representatives of the RFEF and FPF are shown the stadium's facilities and infrastructure
RCD Espanyol received a visit from RFEF representatives this week, which included a technical evaluation of the RCDE Stadium as a possible venue in the 2030 World Cup bid by Spain, Portugal and Morocco.
Antoni Alegre, deputy director of RCD Espanyol, chaired an institutional meeting attended by Pep Mas, representing the Generalitat de Catalunya (Catalan government), as well as Antonio Laranio, Joan Morais, Fernando Monteiro and Daniel Ribeiro from the Portuguese Football Federation; Jorge Mowinckel and María Tato from the RFEF; Anna Gumà from the FCF; Sussana Closa of the Cornellà de Llobregat City Council; and Débora García and Olga Asensio from the El Prat de Llobregat City Council.
The representatives were able to assess the stadium facilities and infrastructures in person, ahead of the presentation of the candidacy for the international tournament.
Joan Capdevila, RCD Espanyol's head of Institutional Sports Relations and a former World Cup winner, acted as host, accompanied by those responsible for the Operations and Match Day departments.
"The visit was very satisfactory," said Capdevilla. "They have been able to see this wonderful stadium and verify that it is capable of hosting the World Cup in 2030."
The RCDE Stadium has already hosted six international matches since its inauguration in 2009 and is one of the best-equipped sports facilities in LaLiga for such events. It has been recognised for its modernity, functionality and efficiency.
