124 years of history
Floral tributes recognise the club's values and past
RCD Espanyol commemorated the club's 124th anniversary on Monday with a series of events in honour of the history, commitment and fans that define the entity. Two floral offerings were made to mark this very special date, bringing together representatives of the club, players, institutional figures and members of the RCDE Foundation.
The day began with a visit to the Sant Gervasi cemetery to pay tribute to Ángel Rodríguez, the founder of the club. The event, organised by the RCD Espanyol Foundation, was attended by the club's CEO, Mao Ye, as well as the president of the Foundation, Antoni Fernández Teixidó, and vice-presidents José Luis Perelló and Jordi Tomàs. Ángel Rodríguez's grandson, José Miguel de Nadal Rodríguez, was also present, accompanied by director of Communication and Institutional Relations, Xavi Andreu, and the director of the Social area, Alberto Ariza. The tribute served to remember and give thanks for the values that Ángel Rodríguez and his contemporaries left as a legacy to the club.
The RCDE Stadium was also the scene of a traditional floral offering in front of the iconic statue at the ground, in homage to the fans. In this event, numerous famous figures from the club and players from the men's and women's teams participated. Mao Ye, CEO of the club; Rafa Marañón, Board Member; Fran Garagarza, Sporting Director; and Dolors Ribalta, Director of Women's Football, attended, as well as other institutional representatives such as Xavi Andreu and Alberto Ariza, together with Rodrigo Meruelo, CTO of RCD Espanyol, and Joan Capdevila, head of Institutional Sports Relations. Captains Pol Lozano, Joan Garcia, Carol Marín and Lice Chamorro also showed their respect for the club's history and the supporters.
The ceremony was taken in by ambassadors Toni Blanch, Iñaki Pérez de Arrilucea and Coco Bertumeu, as well as the president of the Catalan Federation of Espanyol Supporters' Clubs (FCPE), Ton Roig. With this commemoration, Espanyol wanted to highlight, once again, the importance of the fans and the club's history, remembering that such an entity is built day by day thanks to the efforts of all those who are part of it.
