Cardiovascular diseases, which include those that affect the heart and vascular system, are the leading cause of death in developed countries: According to data from the World Health Organisation, they caused nearly 18 million deaths in 2019, representing 32%. These mortality figures are in addition to the chronic nature of the conditions, which has a direct impact on the quality of life of patients and generates dependency, risk of complications and very high healthcare and socioeconomic costs.
Awareness and dissemination of cardiovascular health, together with the promotion of scientific research, will be the objectives of the 31st edition of La Marató de TV3 i Catalunya Ràdio. Catalonia has a solid network of research groups in cardiovascular diseases, which, thanks to the funds raised, will be able to contribute to making advances in the prevention, treatment and prognosis of these diseases.
