RCD Espanyol recognised at ESSMA Summit
The RCDE Stadium wins a Bronze award for Sustainability
RCD Espanyol were one of the main protagonists at the 11th edition of the European Stadium and Safety Management Association Summit -ESSMA- which was held this week at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano in Madrid. The RCDE Stadium, inaugurated in August 2009, remains a benchmark in the sector and a modern and functional facility.
It was recognized in the ESSMA Stadium Industry awards, which were presented during the summit, as RCD Espanyol were awarded the Bronze prize in the sustainability category. The stadium has received numerous awards in its 15 years of history, and became the first in LALIGA to receive this recognition.
This award recognizes the innovative solar energy project, and the jury valued the innovative project led by RCD Espanyol with the installation of two new photovoltaic plants on the roofs of the RCDE Stadium, aimed at promoting sustainable practices.
The RCDE Stadium's solar energy generation capacity has expanded by installing 1,860 595-watt Orion Series VII panels. Thanks to this technology, it is expected to generate approximately 1.9 GWh of energy per year, which represents a reduction of around 800 tons of CO2 per annum. The installation was designed with East and West orientations on the stadium's sloping roof and has 2,220 595 Wp panels and 4 350 kVA inverters, thus optimising energy efficiency and reducing the stadium's carbon footprint.
In addition to the well-deserved recognition, RCD Espanyol, represented by Manu Carrasco from the club's Sponsorship & Hospitality department, participated in the Hospitality panel alongside Fulham FC and Aviron Bayonnais. During the session, RCD Espanyol presented their experiential areas of the stadium, which offer fans a unique environment of entertainment, gastronomy and personalisation to enrich their experience.
ESSMA, a non-profit organisation, is made up of the European professional football leagues, with clubs and companies linked to this sport. Its purpose is the exchange of knowledge and experiences in relation to the management and safety of football stadiums.
