RCD Espanyol participate in World Football Summit in South Africa
A delegation explain the work done by the club in the country
Last week, the city of Durban in South Africa hosted the World Football Summit, with RCD Espanyol one of the participating clubs in the first edition of the meeting to be held in Africa. The event was also attended by various personalities from the worlds of football, politics, economics and society.
RCD Espanyol participated in the LaLiga & The African Football Bridge talk to explain, from a club perspective, why South Africa has been chosen as a focus for growth. This conference revealed how work will be done to generate brand growth and new fans, as well as the importance of having a local academy with scholarships for players to favour the development of homegrown talent, as well as providing an improvement for society.
The work carried out with the Johannesburg academy, the club's commitment to the country, and the desire to explore other ways of collaborating to develop football in South Africa were also covered in the talk, and even the possibility of organising friendlies with local teams.
Taking advantage of the stay in South Africa, the RCD Espanyol delegation were able to spend some time with the Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Nkosinathi Emmanuel, the president of SAFA, Danny Jordan, and representatives of other entities and organisations.
