RCD Espanyol Official Statement
The club denounce the actions of RFEF president, Luis Rubiales
Following the Extraordinary Assembly of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and awaiting the resolutions that may be taken by this sporting and judicial body regarding the actions of its president, Luis Rubiales, during the final of the Women's World Cup in Sydney and the subsequent celebrations, RCD Espanyol de Barcelona wish to express condemnation and rejection of the behaviour of the highest ranking executive of the RFEF, in addition to denouncing his explanations and statements made today.
The images that were seen during the celebration of the FIFA World Cup achieved by the Spain women's national team are unacceptable and improper and, now that the explanations regarding them have been heard, move us to demand the immediate dismissal of the President by the bodies empowered to do so.
RCD Espanyol, who did not participate in this Extraordinary Assembly, have always been active and bold in denouncing behaviours and situations that we have considered unfair or unacceptable, even though this may sometimes have had negative consequences for our club. We will continue to do so in the future because these are our values.
The club also wish to show our full support for the Jennifer Hermoso. We are deeply saddened that these events - which are far from exemplary and professional behaviour - may diminish the importance of a historic achievement achieved by the Spain national team.
We strongly believe in the importance of setting an example through good leadership and promoting an atmosphere in which everyone is treated with respect, dignity and equality.
