RCD Espanyol is the new champion of Rocket League ESL Masters Spain
The pericos beat the FC. Barcelona eSports at the semifinal, and ARG at the big final, winning the ESL Masters Spain for the first time after only 6 months competing in Rocket League.
Both FCB and ARG compete on the main european leagues RLCS and RLRS, respectively.
Last saturday at Madrid Games Week, one of the main national events in the industry, Espanyol didn’t start as a favorite to win the title.
The “pericos” came in the 4th position, and were up against the reigning champion and big favorite, FC Barcelona, a more experienced team with a bigger budget.
The semi-final was a BO5 and it started off very balanced, with connectivity problems for both sides. FCB won the first game by a very tight 3-2, but RCDE never stopped believing and turned it around on the second and third matches with a double 1-3.
On the 4th game Barça was ahead again but a magical goal from captain Stake just 27 seconds before the end of the match brought back the hope to RCDE, and when there were only 9 seconds left on the clock Nachitow scored!
It was the end of the dream for the culés, they failed to reclaim the title, and a fresh new beginning for Espanyol de Barcelona.
But if the semi-final against FCB was an emotional rollercoaster, the BO7 final against ARG was a heart attack!
The teams played all 7 matches with 4 overtime periods. Tied at 3-3, Espanyol took the last game with a total of 11 goal shots and and goal for each team member.
Espanyol is the new official champion and Zamué was nominated MVP of the finals.
This trophee is the result of a big team effort and a true champion attitude of never giving up no matter what.
Stake (captain), Zamué (MVP), and Nachitow, along with the coach Arleyobi, have made history for RCD Espanyol de Barcelona.
