RCD Espanyol enters top 100 clubs with most social media followers
The CIES Football Observatory study places Espanyol at 98th in the world
RCD Espanyol have broken into the ranking of the Top 100 football clubs with the most followers on social media. The CIES Football Observatory list takes into account Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, as of June 2023.
The club are 98th, with a total of 6,168,595 followers and a growing fanbase on social networks. At the end of April the milestone figure of 5 million was reached, rising to hit 6 million earlier this month.
During the 2022/23 season, the club's social network following has grown by 127.84%, with a total of 3.5M new followers.
Of particular note is the significant increase on TikTok, where the relative growth rate (RGR) has been 761%, with a total of 2.2M new followers (2.5M in total), benefitting from the content that Espanyol Media generates for the different social networks. In-house videos generated by the club are adapted to the demands of each account and platform.
In addition, the relationship with influencers such as LaGranjadelBorrego (more than 20M followers on TikTok) Mercedes Roa (9M followers on TikTok) Jero Freixas (2.4M followers on TikTok and 1.4M on Instagram) and Banaz (1.5M followers on Instagram) has been synergistic and essential to the plan drawn up by RCD Espanyol as a gateway to new markets.
Facebook has also shown great growth: 1,146,682 new followers during the 2022/23 season.
This new milestone shows the important achievement for the Club's digital strategy. The fanbase has increased notably and the growth of the club internationally has continued, with a greater presence in strategic markets for the entity.
