Official statement

RCD Espanyol de Barcelona is alarmed by the information published in different media outlets in relation to the so-called 'Negreira case'. Despite the fact that it is still in the investigation phase, the possible implications of what has been published for our competition, the participating clubs and the affected organisations would be so serious that they require exceptional action when it comes to clarifying what really happened and, where appropriate, purify the corresponding responsibilities at national and/or international level.

At RCD Espanyol we have always advocated meticulous compliance with the law and established procedures and, in this sense, we urge the competent bodies and institutions to deal with the matter with the speed and exemplary nature that corresponds to a case that calls into question judge the reputation of our game at an international level.

Recently, our Club was affected by a resolution of another nature that, in our opinion, put the normal functioning of our competition at risk, beyond the damage caused directly to our Club. As then, for the respect that our fans demand and deserve, today we appeal to the rest of the clubs and organisations to take a step forward in defence of the proper functioning and good name of our football.
