Martínez: "I trust the players a lot"
The coach previews the game against Real Valladolid
RCD Espanyol are chasing their first home victory of the season this Sunday when they play Real Valladolid. Speaking ahead of the game, coach Diego Martínez warned that it is going to be a tough contest, but stated that he believes in his players.
In his pre-match press conference, he said, "I think it's going to be a very difficult game, just like the one that we played last Sunday. Valladolid scored three goals against Getafe and come into this match with a good dynamic. Against all of our opponents in LaLiga we have been close to winning, and we just need to be more forceful in attack."
Martínez added, “Morale is very important for the players. We need a win. There are things that we have not done well and others that we have, but this group always pushes through. I trust the players a lot and we just need to turn this into results."
Asked about the fans, Martínez responded, “I cannot ask them for anything. I can only thank them for their support. We need it; it is all we want. We are only in a position to give back to them."
We will have to have our best game possible. One thing is how we are developing, and another is the details that allow us to perform better. We can say that, when it comes to the crunch there are small details that we can improve -and also our decision-making."
Finally, he commented on the initiatives supported by the club on International Breast Cancer Awareness day.
He said, “We join the campaign. We give our support to all the women and associations that fight against breast cancer. If there is something Espanyol has, it is social transcendence, and we want to contribute."
