Martínez: "A draw isn't enough; we wanted the win"
The RCD Espanyol coach's verdict on the 2-2 draw with Cádiz CF
RCD Espanyol coach, Diego Martínez, talked after the 2-2 draw with Cádiz CF, in which the team rallied in the second half and took the lead -only to concede a late equaliser.
"The first half was not good from us. It was difficult to get into the game," he acknowledged.
"After the break, we not only deserved to turn things around, but we had the third goal in our grasp. The RCD Espanyol from the second half is the one we all want to see -and obviously more consistently."
Martínez added that “a draw is not enough; we came here to win and we want to win games. The team want to vindicate ourselves. We have a good mentality and magnificent commitment. Now we need those points that give us serenity and confidence."
Regarding Lecomte return to the starting lineup, the coach commented that “we are a team in every situation. It was a very tough decision to make. No matter who I played in goal, there were going to be strong arguments for and against the choice. We did what we thought was best for the team today, and for everything that lies ahead. We cannot afford to leave anyone behind. These difficulties that we have in some positions must also be overcome by dividing up the responsibilities."
“The more we talk about not wanting to concede, the more we seem to attract goals. We are finding it hard and rushing many actions, and that makes any mistake bigger than it should be. We all have to get through this together as a team. The moment we limit those errors, the team will have more points," he concluded.
