Martínez: “We want to win”
The míster previews RCD Espanyol's trip to Cádiz CF
Diego Martínez spoke in a press conference ahead of Sunday’s match against Cádiz CF.
RCD Espanyol are back on the road as they travel to southern Spain this weekend, searching for a second win of the season away from home. Speaking to the media at the RCDE Stadium, the coach made his expectations clear ahead of an important fixture.
Martínez said, “The team is giving its best to improve, the mentality of the group is extraordinary. We have maximum excitement and belief as a team. We want to win. We need points that reinforce the good work of the team.”
Espanyol and Cádiz are very similarly matched in terms of the LaLiga table, though Martínez has not been approaching the clash through the eyes of the table.
The table doesn’t reflect anything for me right now,” he said. “We are facing a good opponent with a good manager. This is LaLiga, every game is difficult. We believe in our possibilities and, from there, to compete, as we have been doing since day one.”
Martínez said, “The excitement, motivation and belief I have in this team is maximum. I really identify with them. I feel represented when we win and when we don’t, every day and in every training session and every moment.
“When I see a team who faces adversity like this and with this mentality, when we overcome, let’s say, this moment of turbulence, we are going to come out of this very strong. In the end, mentality is really important in life and in teams.”
Espanyol will be without Martin Braithwaite, who is suspended for the next two games, as well as Rúben Sánchez and Gori. Nonetheless, the belief and trust in the squad is evidently high from the Spanish coach.
Martínez said, “We have shown an extraordinary mentality so far this season, and it conveys very important values, which in the future will not only come in the form of good results, but it will allow us to go even further as a team.”
