Martínez: “We need to and want to win”
The RCD Espanyol coach is keen to return to winning ways against Girona
Ahead of the trip to Girona on Saturday, Diego Martínez was clear that all eyes are on the three points.
RCD Espanyol return from the international break looking to end a streak of three consecutive defeats, as the season enters its final 12 matches. The coach addressed the media ahead of the LaLiga clash from the Ciutat Esportiva Dani Jarque.
Martínez said, “We are fully committed and the only thing we can do is face this match with integrity. We need to and want to win; we know how to do it, but we have to execute it. I see the team with that conviction to be able to win”.
Neither Espanyol nor Girona picked up a win in March and will be eager to end that run at the Estadi Montilivi this weekend. The coach added, "The most important thing is the team, that we get points and not think about individual names but about the collective performance of the group. We would be wrong to focus on one player.
“We have to be more consistent defensively and bring the games to a favourable situation, be more forceful in attack and not make mistakes that would cost us. By doing small things well we will reach the state of confidence that every athlete needs”.
Martínez concluded, “I have full confidence in what we are doing and that we will later see it as a moment of improvement. The team is being exemplary in staying united and spending this stretch doing things to change it. The team is focused and strong and wants to vindicate itself”.
