"I'm very happy to be at Espanyol"
Dimata hopes to help and bring his qualities to the team
RCD Espanyol's latest signing, Nany Dimata, was introduced on Tuesday at the RCDE Stadium. Appearing alongside the club's CEO and managing director, José María Durán, and Sporting Director Francisco Joaquín Pérez Rufete, Dimata made it clear that he's here to be part of and to help the team, and that he's very happy to be joining Espanyol.
"Thank you so much for the welcome. Everyone involved in this transfer has done a great job and that's what made an agreement possible. I'm happy and proud to be at Espanyol, a team that's known around the world. My hope is to help the team, have a good time and score goals to achieve the objective of moving up to the First Division”, he said. Dimata, who also made it clear that the injury is “a forgotten issue”, commented that more than anything, what he likes to do is “play football. It's a competitive league with a very high quality of football. I like teams that dominate the ball and my strengths are my movement, speed and precision when scoring”.
The forward went on to comment that this marks "a new chapter" in his sporting career, adding that he would do "everything in [his] power to write it in the best way possible. I want to help the team”. Finally, the striker admitted being surprised by the city's pleasant climate: "we were at one degree, but the weather's good here and it's put me in a good mood", adding that he has received the "warmest welcome from the teammates and the coaching staff”. "I want to do justice to the name of a legend like Thomas N'Kono and what he represents for the club," he said.
As José María Duran commented, it's been “a long and complex transaction. We managed to maintain confidentiality to the end to protect the negotiations”, while Rufete thanked Dimata's "willingness”to sign for Espanyol. “He's very clear that he's come here to do what we need him to do, and that is to achieve the objective of promotion. The most important thing is to help the team and play football”, he concluded.
