González: "We want to take the game to the terrain which favours us"
The coach looks ahead to the game against Villarreal
Manolo González is preparing his RCD Espanyol side for a new challenge on Thursday evening, as they take on Villarreal on Matchday 8 of the LaLiga season.
Speaking in his press conference on Wednesday, he reflected on the team's loss to Real Madrid this past weekend, before turning his attention to the task at hand.
"We came away from that game angry, because we thought we could achieve something positive. That is why now we are looking forward to having a good game at home against Villarreal," he told the media.
"What you learn from that result is that you can have a good game and compete, but you cannot let yourselves switch off. In the Primera Division you cannot make mistakes, because you get punished. The team held on and fought, but the game was decided by our mistakes.”
The coach analysed that Villarreal “are a team with a lot of potential. Offensively and defensively, they do very well. In fact, the other day they did not deserve to lose 1-5, based on the way they played. In any case, we are going to try to make sure it is not an open game. We want to take the game to the terrain which favours us."
"I want us to be known as a team who compete. We have to try to make people say that about every game, to make our rivals stop looking at us like they did in the first match. We have to improve day by day and value on the things we are doing well.”
Finally, on Villarreal's strengths, he said that “they are a difficult team to stop, because they are very fast and direct. We are going to try not to make mistakes, because they can penalise you a lot. We want to have a good game. The faces of the players after the game at the Bernabéu were of discontent, of wanting Thursday to come around so that there would be another match. We want to continue improving and for the team to try to be better every day -and continue growing.”
