González: "The goals were avoidable"
The coach reflects on the 4-1 loss to Real Madrid
RCD Espanyol coach Manolo González could not hide his disappointment at the final result against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu, and admitted that the goals conceded by his side “were avoidable.”
Praising the work of his players during a good part of the match, he said “At least three of the four goals were avoidable. The result is quite exaggerated considering what the match was like. When you take the lead at a ground like this and these goals happen, it is difficult to win. We made big mistakes, but up until the 75th minute we had a very complete game."
The coach pointed out that he felt annoyed because “the team were capable of scoring points. People thought I was crazy for what I had said, but I had the idea that we could take something. That is why I am going away annoyed -even more so when you go ahead and the match is going your way. When it ends up like this, it annoys you even more."
Finally, regarding the late penalty which was converted for Real Madrid's final goal, he said that “I saw that the incident was outside the area. I am annoyed that this meant it finished 4-1. It really bothers me.”
