González: "Home games are key for ensuring survival"
The coach sets the stage for the game against Sevilla FC
RCD Espanyol coach Manolo González talked in his pre-match press conference ahead of the meeting with Sevilla FC on Friday, and he told the media that “we are looking forward to tomorrow’s game."
“We will once again play a nice fixture, and we hope that the fans will go home happy with the three points. We want to be the competitive team that we have seen throughout the season so far,” he stated.
For the coach, “winning at home is crucial. These are key games for ensuring survival. Home games are 'finals' and we have to try to win, no matter what."
“When I lose, I feel very bad and I have a rotten week. I think about the game a lot and analyse it a lot. I don’t like losing. We fight and suffer to get victories. That’s why we give this more importance than other teams.”
He insisted that “the team will compete well and will look to control the game from the first minute. We have to be accurate when we get into the opponent’s area, and need the players to attack the ball and look for the shot.”
González added that, “we are all angry, but we are looking forward to this match to erase the showing from the other day. We want to go home proud and with our heads held high, having given everything on the pitch. Nobody expected the team to not be solid. We have to try to make that a non-negotiable and make it a hallmark. I see that the team are aware of that.”
Finally, about Sevilla and their coach, Francisco Javier García Pimienta, he commented that “he is a good coach and has shown it with his numbers. Sevilla have been improving since the start of the season. They have decisive players and a very good coach.”
